Armenia-Azerbaijan: Statement by Mr Andrius KUBILIUS and Mr Ivan KRULKO, Co-Presidents of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly

We are deeply concerned about the escalation of situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan on their common border. We urge both parties to stop the armed confrontation, which regretfully resulted in a loss of innocent lives.

Both sides must respect the ceasefire and urgently come back to the talks and established formats of dialogue. The parties must do their utmost to resolve the long-standing and tragic conflict between the two neighbors. This is urgent, especially now, in times of fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

Escalation and confrontation is an escape for weak leaders, while the talks for permanent peace demand a brave leadership.
